Avacweb Chat no longer works.

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that Avacweb Chat has stopped functioning this morning after Forumotion changed the coding for their chatbox. Everytime AWC tries to load is gives me a syntax error. I just thought that you'd like to know about this.

Mine has stopped too, I'm using version 1.9.1 and it just says disconnected.

This issue is due to FM releasing a new chatbox. http://help.forumotion.com/t138766p150-new-chatbox#940346 see that thread for more info.

A 9.1 even? I knew LG has been working hard on that next release, but I don't think he can pull off a 9.1 in a couple of weeks, can he? I think you meant version 1.9.1 right?

As FM have made a Update on there systems and are still working on them i Can not see the Chat Box getting an update From LG right now as FM are still fixing bugs that come with the new chat box system. maybe when the bugs have been fixed and it's working right then there will be some chance on it lol

FM have not gave a time for when the bugs will be fixed as it's still in beat mode

I think it's going to take until somewhere around midweek or later next week when LG can start fixing it, and maybe even to get the AWC backbone running to just 'chat' without anyone of us to be able to enjoy all the unique features found in AWC. That means his next release with the nice updates will be brought to us with a 2 week delay at least. While FM is working on it all, AWC is KO meanwhile and 100% because of the different codes being used. I just hope, for the sake of it, FM will continue to work on fixing the chat 100% this weekend. Needless to say, while some of us, like me (I'm the odd one out cuz I just started my community, but still... of 3 active members of 3 walking out will be a 100% score), depend on chat on their forum, each day, hour, or possible minute of delay will cost members. Personally, I have 2 suggestions of improvement (lessons learned):

- FM informs all members these kind of changes are scheduled at some point of time (at least a week prior to them so we can notify our members);
- FM informs affiliates, like Avacweb, about what they're about to do in detail and stick to it, so LG can anticipate and start working on the change prior to kick-off thus keeping downtime to a minimum.

What the biggest problem is now on FM is the communication part, not so much the buggy chat in itself. And that's a HUGE concern to FM when it gets down to trust between their members and the French company. They left everyone in the dark, while they were the ones who knew about it. That's not fair play to me if you depend and rely on your 'dear members' to help you out reporting bugs to you, as FM states or is that make believe? I'm not sure what to believe no more. Will those members take it just the same next time? Hmmm.... I don't think so. I hope so, but I don't think so! At least not the way the did the change this time or a huge riot will be imminent!

Well, just a few thoughts. I think 99% of the mature audience around here shares the same vision. What are your thoughts?

I agree with you Samantha a fair warning would be nice and not just at the support site since most of us do not go there. ( I don't at least lol).

I do go on there but they released a public announcement until after they already released it. Although now that I think back I did recieve some cues, but did not notice until now. Talk of FM updating the chat.... all well, I hope the updates stop soon.

Well, I think it's best for FM to sit around the table and discuss things with affiliates etc. before their next run. This is not LG's fault and I won't have it anyone suggesting such. Let FM contact them, and if they don't, LG should be the one on our behalf to step up to them. At least, that's my opinion. He's our best bet and I'd like Avacweb & AWC to STAY because Avacweb is part of me and I'm part of Avacweb! And that's my plea!

Honestly I think it was done that way on purpose, that way everyone will be FORCED to use their chatbox until developers get a chance to adapt their code to fix/upgrade their software. Knowing fm that would not be a crazy thought.

I don't understand why they would release something that was clearly stated to be under beta testing to everyone. Beta testing should be done voluntarily, or even by the "techs" there themselves. Bad move by Forumotion.

Been having a look at the chatbox updates today to start fixing up AWC.
One thing I did notice was Forumotion have potentially set up a way of having your forums chatbox on external sites... I may be wrong, but they might release a 'share your chatbox' code in the future.

Well yes and no. The set up is much nicer but they have changed a few vital workings of the chatbox which may prevent other features. Right now I'm trying to find a way to continue private messaging in AWC so I hope I can find a way to continue achieving this.

So how is AWC doc? Will he make it? Please tell me he will make it? I hope you can find a way too, it would be sad if it was impossible to do

Just to put things right here..

FM did not change the Chat Box settings to upset anyone or to mess any of the other really cool settings that LG has gave us all.

I was down to see that this system no longer works like the rest of you are.

I know this update is a move that FM had to do as there was big problems with the old system when we moved over to the new data center.

FM did not tell anyone about the update until the day it was posted live. They are working on all the bugs and have been working all weekend.

as a staff member there we was not told nothing all we was told is that there will be an update on the Chatbox bugs soon.

as you know most of the time we had problems with the old chatbox for a long time now and we do hope this one will be a lot better and the bugs will be gone for Good (WELL WE HOPE ANYWAY)

Don't worry they will get it fixed and will let us know.. and as LG has said they have made this better so maybe there is more to come at a latter date

Well maybe if then would have updated the old chatbox to begin with instead of ignoring it or putting it off they would not need an entir0new one. Also I think they should,work on their communication, a change that big and globally should not be kept in the dark, it should be coordinated among every staff and every support forum, we understand the updates, it just would have been nice to have some prior warning even if it is to just to notify our own members. I am sorry fm needs to work their communication. That is how I feel, I am sure I am not alone in thinking this.

as you say yes this should have been told to all there members before it was put online but as you know we have no say in what is going on most updates are tested and the bugs are worked on before it comes online but not sure why this was not tested first ... I think its down to staff members are not all on line at the same time to test the problems. i think they made the right move to put this online for every one and then find the bugs and fix them all in one go.

Bus if you look on FM support the bugs are getting fixed and all i know there working hard to make everyone happy.

yes this system is made to be worked on by the FM team and we hope there be more things added at a later date.

we are really sorry that there was problems with LG's chat but as this is not software FM is supporting and it's a plug in there is nothing they can do to help fix this.

Shame FM did not run a better system in the first place but please feel free to post on FM if you have a problem that is to do with the main chat of FM's

I wouldn't go to that lousy support site they are all clueless and completely ignorant in any language. This is why avacweb, easybbtutorials, and every other tut site was created.

This is why I practically left the Dutch FM support site (its complete and utter bs in my opinion and members are seeking support on the English one because solving tickets takes ages), but it's hardly any better on the English one. And they don't like Dutchies there, everything HAS to be English, even the forum promotions, reviews, everything. I hesitate taking the word 'discriminated' in my mouth, but I do feel different being treated that way and not being able to be 100% part of it all. The only thing pending at the moment on the Dutch FM support site is a forum review and that comes at a very bad time now chat isn't working!

I'd rather we didn't get bitchy about the support forum here. No need to, they do a good job and can't all be expected to know everything.

On the note of AWC, while I know the update was long overdue and a natural necessity, there are a few aspects of the update that lead me to believe certain bits are purposly used to thwart custom chat boxes - possibly in an attempt to restore faith in their own chatbox and ultimately FM as a caring company. I suspect a marketing move within this update somewhere; the chatbox is a popular feature which is widely disregarded and replaced for others, mods or third party ones, seems a little strange they'd rewrite it before fixing other bugs or finishing other features.

...just speculation however.

It's not the volunteer staff, LG, it's the FM system.
